Trauma informed approach
At Educate U Futures, we set lofty expectations while recognizing the impact of emotional dysregulation on learning. Our goals include providing a supportive environment, fostering strong relationships, and equipping students with effective communication strategies. We emphasize a calm and informed atmosphere, integrating Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural education. Consistency in positive behaviour support is ensured through staff training, data recording, and multi-agency support for complex issues.
Our Trauma-Informed Practices involve ongoing training, using P.A.C.E. language, and avoiding stigmatizing terms. We focus on understanding the message behind behaviour and promoting self-regulation strategies, using models like the Zones of Regulation. The approach is guided by the Protect/Relate/Regulate/Reflect model, emphasizing positive interactions and emotional safety.
Key training aspects include:
- Attuning to the child’s emotions and mirroring their feelings.
- Empathy to recognize and affirm the child’s experience.
- Containment to provide structure and consistency.
- Emotional Regulation through calming strategies and sensory support.
- De-escalation using non-physical methods.
P.A.C.E
We use P.A.C.E. (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy) to build secure relationships, helping students feel safe and reducing anxiety. The approach emphasizes understanding and supporting the child’s inner life without judgment, focusing on the whole child rather than just behaviour.
Adverse Childhood Experiences
Educate U Futures staff are trained to respond empathetically to trauma, using trauma-informed language and principles to create a safe, supportive learning environment that acknowledges the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and promotes healing and resilience.
